Principal / Senior Architecture Specialist / Technical Expert Surgery

Computer Science Corp (CSC)

FEDERAL RFP/RFQ Proposal Development (DoD)
Engaged as the lead architect for the development of the technical integration solution the associated proposal section response for the ERP implementation of financial modules of the Oracle eBusiness Suites introducing the DoD to using commercial COTS and commercial business processes. My task was the design and TCO of the technical infrastructure. The proposal had a potential $500m price tag.
Lead Integration Managing Architect for a Major DoD Logistics project for the US AMC (DoD)
Engaged as the managing and lead architect for the integration division of LMP (Logistics Modernization Program) the largest implementation of SAP, to date, in the world for the DoD and AMC. I lead a team of 50+ architects and developers located in different geographical locations. The engagement consisted of replacing, as transparently as possible, 30 year old legacy systems for each Army Logistical Command under one system. Original estimates of the interface effort were over 350,000 man-hours. I was brought in to reduce that number and deliver the solution. The effort was reduced to less than 100,000 man-hours. The entire solution required over 400 interfaces to 70+ partners, many as old as the original legacy. Total daily transaction counts averaged 200,000 with a surge potential of a factor of 4 during war time situations and monthly and fiscal closeouts. The nature of the project was that it was seriously behind schedule when I was placed and the time to develop the architecture, implement, and test interfaces was unusually tight. I defined and lead the implementation of a service based architecture using SeeBeyond’s 4.5.2 e*Gate EAI Product served on Sun UNIX servers. Requirements demanded a batch to transaction paradigm and vice versa and a percentage of NRT. Connectivity technologies required included SAP (BAPI, RFC, ALE), FTP, CICS, MQSeries, TCP/IP, SNA LU6.2, File and single transaction transmissions using XML. The project was successfully deployed and has put the AMC logistical capabilities years ahead of any other nation. I represented the project along with the program director in several industry periodicals emphasizing the tremendous success of such a complicated endeavor.
FEDERAL RFP/RFQ Proposal Development (DoD)
Designated as the lead architect for the system integration solution of a large $1.2 billion DoD HR ERP implementation of PeopleSoft. My task was the design and TOC of the EAI infrastructure. My assignment was switched to managing a failing DoD integration effort that was more critical to CSC.
Lead Architect and Product Selection Manager (NASA)
Led a team of 6+ in the procurement of an EAI solution of the NASA IFMP initiative. The IFMP initiative required the integration of core functions across ten autonomous NASA centers. Responsibilities required determining customer integration needs, and to develop and implement an extensive federal procurement process to select a combination of EAI tools. The environment needing to be addressed was primarily OS/390, AdaBase/Natural, and a new installation of SAP Core Financials. The process required complex RFP, scoring models, proof of concept activities. Initially 12 vendors responded to the RFP. After reviewing and scoring the, first down select was limited to IBM, Microsoft BizTalk, Mercator, SeeBeyond, CrossWorlds, and WebMethods. A Secondary down select was performed from more in depth analysis to three vendors, and finally a single vendor was awarded the procurement. Due to the civil and federal nature of this selection the process was extremely rigorous and lasted quite some time. After my assignment was complete I followed the success of the integration team on site using my recommendations for integration and a distributed services architecture.
Commercial RFP/RFQ Proposal Development (Bechtel)
Engaged as the Project Director for the development of a web based HR system for global hiring and associated HR functions for Bechtel, the largest contractor in the world. I joined the team very late, 2 weeks prior to proposal deadline. The project was not awarded.
Financial Community Web Portal
Chief Architect in the design and development of a financial portal offering community, personalization, service integration, education, and storefront. The project was a personal effort and the site was acquired. Responsibilities included full technical and content decision authority, design, and assisting in implementation. Implementation was done using IIS4.0 on a clustered NT platform. Technologies employed are as follows but not limited to ASP, MS SQL Server 7.0, COM Services developed in VB and C#, and Java utilizing LDAP, MTS, MS Site Server and Commerce Server, and a variety of third party products.
Feasibility Study for Web Credit Card Processing Application
Architectural Consultant and technical expert in assisting an architectural study and recommendation for the development of an e-business for a large credit card processing corporation. The requirement was to determine the initial scope, required services, interfaces, and required resources to develop a Websphere 3.0 solution and EJB technology.
